Dew Pond Restaurant

Tucked away in the peaceful countryside of Old Burghclere, the Dew Pond Restaurant offers more than just a meal-it delivers an experience. Located on Kingsclere Road near Newbury, this hidden gem combines the elegance of fine dining with the warmth of a family-run setting, where attention to detail and passion for food are on full display the moment you step inside. Whether you're a local looking for a go-to dinner spot or a traveler seeking something special off the beaten path, Dew Pond knows exactly how to leave a lasting impression.

From the outside, the venue feels like an English countryside dream. Step indoors, and you’re welcomed by rustic charm, a cozy fireplace, and a team that treats hospitality as an art form. The ambiance is quiet, intimate, and utterly comfortable-ideal for romantic evenings, business lunches, or even a peaceful solo dinner. Plus, with full wheelchair accessibility across the car park, entrance, seating, and toilets, the space is designed to be inclusive for all guests.

Now, let’s talk food-because this is where Dew Pond truly shines. Their seasonal menus rotate frequently, ensuring that only the freshest ingredients make it to your plate. If you're unsure where to start, the Twice Baked Cheese Soufflé is a revelation-light, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. It's the kind of dish that immediately tells you the kitchen knows what it's doing.

Seafood lovers are in for a treat with dishes like the Octopus Salad and the delicate Sea Bass, both of which highlight expert execution without overcomplication. The Crab Cake, paired with a crisp glass of white wine from their impressive list, is another favorite that brings both texture and brightness to the table.

If your palate leans more toward the meaty side, don’t pass on the Filet Steak-tender, juicy, and served with thoughtful accompaniments that enhance rather than overpower. The Rump of Lamb is another showstopper, especially when ordered with a side of their seasonal vegetables. For something with a touch of decadence, the Venison offers deep, rich flavors that feel like pure comfort on a plate.

Lighter options include the Prawn and Salmon Salad, which comes beautifully presented and layered with textures and freshness. And if you're looking for something to begin your meal, the Parma Ham and Terrine starters are both bold and refined in equal measure.

Dew Pond also boasts a wine list that’s worth exploring. Whether you're after a robust red to complement your lamb or a chilled glass of white wine to accompany your seafood, the staff are always ready with thoughtful pairings. Their great wine list, cocktail selection, and warm, expert coffee service add an extra layer of pleasure to the experience.

Of course, no visit is complete without dessert. Those with a sweet tooth will find themselves spoiled with options like the Hot Chocolate Pudding with Nougat Parfait and Toasted Almonds, the indulgent Honeycomb N Chocolate with Chocolate Ice Cream, and the ever-classic Chocolate Brownie. And for the custard lovers out there-yes, they’ve got that too, and it’s smooth, creamy, and just sweet enough.

The dessert menu isn’t just an afterthought-it’s a carefully crafted finale that brings balance to the entire experience. Pair it with a well-poured espresso or choose from their great tea selection for the perfect ending note.

What also sets Dew Pond apart is its dine-in only policy. There’s no takeaway or delivery service here, and honestly, that’s part of the charm. The restaurant encourages guests to pause, unwind, and truly enjoy the moment-something that’s becoming rarer in today’s fast-paced world.

Whether you’re visiting for lunch, dinner, or just a well-deserved escape with good wine and great food, Dew Pond Restaurant delivers the kind of thoughtful dining that lingers in your memory long after you’ve left the table.

Back again after many years absence and nothing has changed (in a good way). Still lovely, well prepared, well presented English food. A fixed menu but with wide ranging choices and an extensive wine list to suit all budgets. Perfect for a celebration or just enjoying great cooking.

Lovely birthday visit to The Dew Pond. After a very warm welcome by owners Julie and Keith, we enjoyed drinks outside on the decking, overlooking the garden and surrounding greenery. As usual, also enjoyed some delicious cheese straws while perusing the menu. I went for the cheese soufflé, beef and a very refreshing espresso ice cream - perfect way to finish in the warm weather. Service from Marie and Emma was a particular highlight - considerate and professional but giving enough space to enjoy yourself. Would highly recommend at any time of the year but particularly as we come into the warmer weather, it’s a beautiful place to visit.

Delightful meal with a lovely ambiance. Classic British food with some French influences. Service and location made for a very pleasant dinner. You can also get some very picturesque views of the surrounding area from the outer deck.

Amazing as usual, have been coming here for 15 years and it’s never disappoints. Food is amazing and service is attentive without being overbearing. Price is set at £42/£48 for 2/3 courses, with 5 or 6 daily changing seasonal dishes. Some dishes like the soufflé are always available. This time we had the Mushtoom risotto, salmon, scallops and souffle to start. They were all fresh and delicious. Mains of Duck and beef were great with the duck really shining, although some more of the carrot purée would have been lovely. The dessert of cherry and almond tart was spectacular! Can’t wait to come back again soon! Make sure you booking in advance!
